Signia App Guide - How to Control Your Hearing Aid from Your Phone

The Signia app turns your smartphone into a powerful remote control for your hearing aids. Instead of fiddling with tiny buttons on the device, you can adjust volume, switch programs, fine-tune sound quality, and even contact your audiologist - all from your phone screen. This guide walks you through everything from downloading the app to mastering its features.

Step 1: Download the Signia App

The Signia app is free and available on both major platforms:

The app requires iOS 13 or later, or Android 7.0 or later. Most smartphones purchased after 2018 are compatible.

Step 2: Pair Your Hearing Aids

  1. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on in your phone's settings
  2. Turn off your hearing aids by opening the battery door (or place rechargeable models in the charger, then remove them)
  3. Wait 5 seconds, then turn them back on (close battery door or remove from charger)
  4. Open the Signia app on your phone
  5. The app will search for nearby hearing aids - this takes about 10-15 seconds
  6. When your hearing aids appear on screen, tap "Pair" or "Connect"
  7. You will hear a confirmation tone in your hearing aids when connected
Tip: If the app cannot find your hearing aids, try restarting both your phone and hearing aids. Make sure no other Bluetooth devices are trying to connect simultaneously. Our audiologists can help you with initial pairing at your fitting appointment.

Step 3: Explore App Features

Volume Control

The main screen shows a simple volume slider. Swipe up to increase volume, swipe down to decrease. You can adjust both hearing aids together or each ear independently by tapping the "split" icon. This is particularly useful if your hearing loss is different in each ear.

Program Switching

Your audiologist will set up different listening programs during your fitting appointment. Common programs include:

Tap on any program to switch instantly. The hearing aids adjust within milliseconds.

Sound Balance (Equalizer)

The app includes a simple sound balance feature that lets you adjust:

Streaming Controls

When streaming audio from your phone (calls, music, videos), the app shows separate controls for:

This balance is important. For phone calls, you may want to reduce environment sounds. For music while walking, you want to keep environment sounds for safety. Read more about Bluetooth hearing aids.

Battery Status

The app displays the current battery level for each hearing aid. For rechargeable models, it shows the percentage remaining. For battery models, it gives a general indicator (full, half, low).

Compatible Signia Models

The Signia app works with the following models available at our clinic:

Note: Basic models like the Signia Orion and Intuis do not have Bluetooth and cannot connect to the app. If app control is important to you, discuss this with your audiologist when selecting your hearing aid model.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

App cannot find hearing aids

Connection drops frequently

Audio quality during streaming is poor

Privacy and Data

The Signia app does not record your conversations or share your hearing data with third parties. Your hearing aid settings are stored locally on your phone and in the hearing aids themselves. You can use the app offline for basic controls - only the remote audiologist support feature requires internet.
